"Are you doing this as a hobby or are you doing this for a living?"
“Are you doing this as a hobby or are you doing this for a living?" This question I was asked a few years ago by Alexander Kirzinger at the start of our collaboration. There was a lot of skepticism regarding #BrenéBrown's Dare to Lead program and its application possibilities, for himself and in particular when it came to Alexanders place of work, Shanghai.
Alexander's skepticism is not unique. In the years I have been working internationally, I have noticed that there are many preconceptions about emotions and showing vulnerability in other cultures. Especially about Asian cultures, I notice that there are a lot of assumptions. These range from "they don't have emotions" to "they don't speak up anyway, they are not allowed to have their own opinions”. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it is in Japan and China that I find the participants the most eager to learn. Not only to understand what I mean by "Dare to Connect," #DaretoLead and learn about our humanity, but also when it comes to applying these insights. In their own lives and among themselves as colleagues. Even so that today I dare to say that not only Alexander is a big fan of our work, in Shanghai there is a whole group of fans, of which I think @Momo Xiong is the biggest fan. Without her ambassadorship and her being a role model, we would not have been so successful. So it shows that exemplary behavior matters and that 1 person can start a movement, especially if it is from the heart and with passion and inspiration.
It is therefore with pride and gratitude that I announce that Momo and I will host a free online interactive session. A session in English for a select group of participants who will have the opportunity to ask us both all about developing personal and hierarchical leadership in Chinese/Asian culture. The session will take place on 12 May from 8.00 to 9.30 a.m. CET. You can sign up by sending an email with your motivation to info@durfteverbinden.nl. There is room for a maximum of 9 participants.
